Oranges were first grown in Asia. They are amoung the oldest cultivated fruits. Oranges have been grown for more than 4000 years.

Oranges were originally grown in India, Mayanmar and South West China. They were quite rare and expensive then, and people considered them to be an exotic delicacy.

Arab trade introduced oranges into Eastern Africa and the Middle East. In the 15th century, Portuguese travelers carried oranges to Europe. It was Christopher Columbus who brought oranges to America. Soon European settlers were cultivating oranges in Florida and Brazil. Spanish missionaries established the first orange groves in California and today California oranges are famed the world over.
