Allys are divided into 2 groups depending upon their iron content - Ferrous and Non-Ferrous alloys. Ferrous alloys are those alloys whose base metal is iron. Examples include carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, tool steels and cast iron.
Alloys that contain no iron are called Non-Ferrous alloys. Of these, the copper alloys are the largest group. Most copper alloys are brasses and bronzes. Bronze is copper alloyed mostly with tion. Brass is copper alloyed with zinc. Most kinds of brass are easily shaped and have a pleasing appearance. Alloys of aluminium, titanium, zinc, nical, cobalt, tungsten, precious metals and refractory metals are other non ferrous alloys. They are used in a variety of applications from constraction to medical service.
