We can roughly divide metals into different groups like Actinide metals, Alkali metals, Alkaline earth metals, Lanthanide metals, Noble metals, Rare metals, Rare Earth metals and Transition metals.
Alkali metals are shiny and light in weight, while Actinide metals are radioactive, and not generally found in Nature. Lanthanide and Rare Earth metals are silver or silver white, and tarnish quickly, while Noble metals like gold and Platinum do not corrode easily. So, we can say that metals are classified into different classes according to the charactristics they present.
