Pepper, which adds pungency to our meals, orginally grew only in the Western cost of India.Today, however more than 80% of pepper os grown in the East Indies, Mainly Indonesia.

Though the pepper plant grows wild, it is generally cultivated on plantations. It is a tropical climbing shrub. The fruit is green at first, and then turns yellow. When it is ripe, it is red in colour, but it is usually picked just before it is fully ripe.
The fruits are dried in the sun till they turn black. The dried pepper is ground to pungent powder which adds a tongue tingling 'zing' to any dish!
