World Cup Football

Football has been played in different countries, in some form or the other,for centuries. Did you know that 2000 years ago, a form of football was being played in China? However, modern football was born in UK, in 1863. international football began in Paris on May 21,1904 which the establishment of FIFA, which is the shorter form for The Federation Internationale Football Association. Football became an official competition at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. However, the Olympic competitions were for amateurs only. This meant that the players did not play for money, but for their countries and their team's glory, and their reward were medals.

FIFA and its president Jules Rimet then decided to stage an international tournament outside of the Olympics. On May 28,1928 the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam decided to stage a world championship organized by FIFA. In 1930, FIFA named Uruguay as the host country of the inaugural World Cup tournament. In total, thirteen nations took part- seven from South America, Four from Europe and two from North America, and World Cup Football was born

Uruguay hosted the first World Cup matches in 1930, and became the first nation to win a World Cup, Defeating Argentina 4-2. Since then, the World Cup has been held every fourth year since 1930 – except during World War II
