W e know that steel is an alloy of iron mixed with carbon and other elements. But, did you know that steel itself can be alloyed with other metals to produce alloy steel? These alloy steels have a wide range of uses. Manganese alloy steels are used to make rock crushers, power shovels and other machnies, which have to be extremely tough and strong. Stainless steel is another alloy steel, which contains chromium, nickel and maganese. It is very hard and strong, and resists heat and corrosion. Stainless steel has hundreads of uses, from cutlery and cookware to lifts and subway trains, from safety pins and furniture to car engines and chemical plants.
