Why do animals’ eyes shine in the dark?

Animals have a light-reflecting surface in their eyes called the tapetum lucidum which is located
behind the retina. This layer is composed of 15 layers of special glittering cells of the substance
guanine. The reflection by this surface permits the retina to absorb extra light. This also aids the
animal’s night vision. It must also be noted that only when the light hits certain angles of the eye,
does it reflect the light. Subscribe to Child Project Helper by Email
