UN call to save those species
One hundred and ninety three members of the UN’s Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) gathered in the Japanese city of Nagoya and made it clear that the world must act immediately to stop the rapid loss of animal, plant species and the habitat they live in. Scientists from across the world believe human population pressures are wiping out ecosystems such as tropical forests and coral reefs, killing off animal and plant species that form the web of life which humanity depends on. “Our prosperity and indeed our survival depend on healthy ecosystems,” said Jim Leape, the chief of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF). “The Earth’s forests, oceans and rivers are the very foundation of our society and economy,”
Harappan age comes back to life
A recent paper of National Institute of Oceanography suggests that a limestone structure at the Harappan town of Mul Dwarka (Kodinar, Gujarat) is the earliest structure on the Indian coast. Locally known as ‘Diva Dandi,’ in Gujarati, this structure is 4m high and 2m in diameter, constructed with well-dressed limestone blocks. Diva Dandi is placed at the highest point on the coast. This suggests that this structure might have been used as a lighthouse – the oldest one recorded on the Saurashtra coast so far.# Subscribe to Child Project Helper by Email
