hildren enjoy hearing stories about the birth of Lord Krishna, and his naughty pranks when he was a little boy. Lord Krishna’s birth day falls on Janmashtami, in the months either August or September, depending on the position of the star Rohini, under which Lord Krishna was born.
Many people begin the celebrations by fasting the previous day. After morning prayers and worship, the devotees break there fast. This is followed by sumptuous midday feasts, where families customarily get together.

In North India, temples at Vrindavan and Mathura witness a colorful, even boisterous celebration on this occasion. Players are performed to recreate incidents from the life of Krishna.
