anesh Chathurthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. It is a ten daylong celebration that falls sometime in August or September. Ganesh Chathurthi is celebrated all over India, but with greatest fervor in Maharashtra. Classical dance recitals, music performances, poetry recitations, folk dances are the main features of the festival.
During this festival, beautiful idols of Lord Ganesh are worshipped in homes, and offering of Lord Ganesha’s favourate foods are made. Huge idoms of Ganesh are also installed in public places….some of them are more than twenty feet high. On the concluding day of the festival, the idols are taken in a grand procession and immersed in the sea.
