ncient people, especially the Babylonians believed that the heavenly bodied had a great influence on the lives of people. They spent a lot of time studying the night sky with which they became familiar.
Based on the position of the stars, ancient Babylonians began to predict the future. Thus, astrology came into begin. Priests, who were also diviners, used to observe the stars and performed religious rites to ward off evil influences. To enable them to do this, observatories were built on the flat roofs of their temples.

The Babylonian’s knowledge of mathematics and geometry also helped  in the study of the star. They divided the sky into regions, and the group of stars in to constellations, naming them after Gods and objects. In course of time, these were renamed by the ancient Greeks to give us the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
