Louis XVI King of France ascending the throne at the age of twenty. He was of average intelligence, but was not overly concerned with the running of the country. When he came to power, France was deeply in debet. Louis tried to carry out some reforms that were proposed by his chief financial officer named Robert Jacques Turgot, Who was a brilliant and creative administrator. But he was opposed by the nobles and clergy.
When the reforms failed, Louis dismissed Turgot. From that point onwards, the country fell into ruinous financial crisis. At the heart of the crisis was the financial and administrative mismanagement of taxes. If these reforms had gone through, the revolution probably would never have happened.
