Insects have only three pairs of legs, while spiders and scorpions have four pairs. An insect's body is divided into three parts. In the case of spiders and scorpions, their bodies have only two sections, because the head and chest are joined together.
Another difference is that insects have wings,antennae, and large componud eyes, while spiders and scorpions have no wings or antennae. Their eyes are simple too. So though spiders and scorpions are arthropods, they are not insects.
